Monika Jacyna - Project and Product Management Department Manager
"What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl? I dreamt of becoming a doctor-diver, envisioning myself treating people underwater.
How did you get to where you are now?
During my career journey, I've been fortunate to meet people who believed in my potential. With supportive mentors guiding me and offering opportunities for growth, I worked hard to prove I was worthy of their trust while also showing myself that I could handle new challenges.
Tell us a bit more about your professional journey and your role today at R&D Viessmann Climate Solutions?
Starting off on this journey four and a half years ago as a Project Manager handling embedded software for our communication modules (TCUs), I quickly found myself diving into Smart Room Control and Home Energy Management System programs. My passion for HEMS pushed me to take the lead in coordinating its development. Working closely with UX/UI and Product Managers, I recognized my desire to deliver customer-centric solutions and driven by my keen interest in both technology and business, I happily shifted to become the HEMS Product Owner. Now, after nearly two years, I've undertaken a new challenge as the Department Manager, overseeing the Project and Product Management Team in Wrocław.
What is your proudest achievement at the company so far?
Contributing to the initial release of Viessmann Energy Management and surpassing 10k HEMS Users.
What kind of challenges have you faced as a female manager in our company, and how have you overcome them?
Actually, at Viessmann, I haven't really faced any major challenges. But in my previous job, being a young project manager surrounded by seasoned male engineers was quite tough. They were eager to highlight my lack of experience, so I straight-up asked for their advice and made it clear that I didn't have all the answers. I reminded everyone that we're all on the same team, and I stayed focused on my role in project management. Eventually, we clicked as a team, and collaborating with them on future projects became truly enjoyable.
Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women considering pursuing a career in tech/business?
Stay positive, believe in yourself, and don't be afraid to ask for support. Asking questions isn't a sign of incompetence, it's a pathway to growth. Push past your perceived limits, picture where you want to be, and take steps to get there.
What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you?
Stay committed to your goals while keeping your team's well-being a top priority, after all, the people within the organization are its heartbeat.
What is the best thing about being Project and Product Management Department Manager?
The best part is definitely being part of an exceptional team and the opportunity to drive positive change across our processes, projects, and products.
What main change would you like to see for young girls in the next generation?
As a mom of two daughters, I hope they can chase their dreams without any limits or unfair judgments holding them back.
What drives you in achieving business results?
I genuinely enjoy what I do, and the challenges I face every day help me grow and learn. Moreover, with such an incredible team by my side, work feels like a rewarding adventure. It's also a great bonus to know that what we do actually helps reduce carbon emissions and make a positive impact on the environment.
How would you describe your leadership style?
We spend most of our lives at work, so it's vital that we all understand why our company operates the way it does. That's why I make sure to communicate our vision, strategy, and goals clearly. It helps us make better decisions and see the value in what we do. I'm all about teamwork, so I'm all in for building diverse teams that break down barriers. And above all, I believe trust is key, so I focus on creating a safe space in our team where everyone knows they can rely on each other.
Why do we need more women in leadership?
Having more women in leadership roles brings in diverse perspectives and experiences, which can lead to innovative solutions. Embracing this diversity shakes up traditional structures and promotes inclusivity and equality, making sure everyone's voice is heard and valued.
What does International Women's Day mean to you? Do you think it's something that should remain relevant in the business world?
It reminds me that we can achieve anything, regardless of who we are, both in our personal lives and in business.
Happy International Women’s Day!"
